James Stephen Sheehe Obituary

Cumberland, MD - James "Jim" Stephen Sheehe Jr., age 87, of Cumberland, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on June 10, 2026.

Born October 28, 1938 in Cumberland, Maryland, Jim was the son of the late James Sheehe Sr. and Frances (Lowry) Sheehe, both of whom he loved dearly.

He was a graduate of LaSalle High School, Class of 1956, and earned his bachelor's degree in Education from Frostburg State Teacher's College in 1960. Jim later earned his Master's Degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and Community Planning in 1969.

Jim began his career as a teacher in Prince George's County School System. He then worked as a social worker at the Allegany County Department of Social Services, where he was respected for his hard work, professionalism, and commitment. Jim went on to become the Director of Social Services at Memorial Hospital. He took great pride in serving others throughout his career.

Above all, Jim was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Rosemary (Simpson) Sheehe; three children, Shelley Sheehe (Rick Gressard) of Charles City, Virginia, Amy Biancone (Richard) of LaVale, and Daniel Sheehe (Kay) of Cumberland; and nine grandchildren, Kristen Shore (Brian), Lauren Blatney (Stephan), Kelsey Lynch (Zachary), Kaleigh Hagan (John), Krissy Biancone, Bella Biancone, Marina Earle, Colin Sheehe, and Connor Sheehe.

Jim greatly cherished being a great-grandfather to eleven beautiful children, Eli, Emma, and Ezra Lynch; Jacob and Lucas Blatney; Harry, Hawk, and Hazel Shore; Arlo and Demi Biancone-Contreras; and Abigail Hagan, all of whom he was so proud of.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, telling stories to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spending time with his dogs, and watching sports, especially his Fighting Irish and his Yankees. He was also a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish (St. Patrick's Catholic Church) for many years. He will be fondly remembered for his devotion to family, impressive intellect, and quick Irish wit.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time. Jim will be deeply missed and remembered lovingly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
