Wiley Ford, WV - James Floyd Sponaugle, 77, passed away on May 17, 2026 after an extended illness. Born on December 3, 1948, Floyd attended Ridgeley High School and was well known for his kind heart and his gift for conversation. He never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone willing to listen. He was always eager to share a story, laughter, and companionship.

Floyd enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved watching westerns and in his younger years he enjoyed biking on the C&O Canal. He also enjoyed delivering newspapers with his longtime friend, Lane. Whether sharing stories with family and friends, or chatting with neighbors around town, Floyd found joy in connecting with others.

Floyd was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Sublett and husband Les; and his father Charles Sponaugle. It brings great comfort to know he is now reunited with his beloved mother in Heaven.

Floyd is survived by his brother, Dennis Sponaugle and his wife, Cheryl; his uncle, Paul Spriggs; his devoted best friend, Norman White; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. Floyd's life was filled with stories, and those who knew him will miss sharing in them.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 22nd from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland. A funeral service will immediately follow beginning at 1:00pm with Pastor Tim Watkins officiating.

Interment will be with his mother in Abe Cemetery, Short Gap, WV.
