Ridgeley, WV - RIDGELEY, W.Va. [mdash] Jerry Wayne Hoover, 75, of Ridgeley, died Sunday, March 9, 2025, at his home.
Born Feb. 14, 1950, in Amherst, Texas, he was the son of the late Marion Gail Hoover and Betty Irene (Atchison) Hoover.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Donnie Hoover.
Jerry spent his childhood in Texas, where he grew up on a cotton farm.
He was a veteran, having retired as a Major from the U.S. Army, where he had served for 23 years. Jerry had served in many different countries during his time in the Army, including serving in the Vietnam Conflict. He had also served in the U.S. Special Forces and as an Army Ranger.
After his retirement from the Army, he spent numerous years with his wife in El Salvador.
Upon returning to the United States, he worked locally for IBM, retiring in 2015.
Currently, Mr. Hoover had been a professor at Allegany College of Maryland, where he taught numerous courses including cyber security, computer literacy, and forensics.
He was a member of Ft. Cumberland Post #13 American Legion, and the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #112, Cumberland.
In his free time, Jerry enjoyed reading and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Eva (Rivera) Hoover; daughters, Christy Tate, and Amy Davis and husband, James; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brother, Mike Hoover.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m.
A service will follow in the funeral home at 3 p.m., with Rev. Mark Carter, OFM, Cap. officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
