Sykesville, Maryland - Joan Lee Conaway, age 89, of Sykesville, passed away, on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Fairhaven Health Care Center, in Sykesville.

Born, Dec. 7, 1933, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Clark, Sr. and Lucy Jane Hartman Clark. She was the wife of the late Clifton Delano "Mouse" Conaway, who died, in 1988.

Joan was raised in Cumberland. She graduated, from Fort Hill High School, in 1951. Then, she graduated, as an R.N., from Memorial Hospital Nursing Program, in 1954. Joan was, a life-long nurse, at heart. She worked, at Springfield Hospital, in Sykesville, and then, at the Mount Wilson Hospital, in Baltimore, where she retired.

Joan was active in her family's lives, serving as a Cub Scout den mother, in the West Friendship 4-H Club, and Carroll Kennel Club. She enjoyed travel and did so often. She always remembered everyone's special days, and enjoyed sending cards, to commemorate those occasions. Joan was a woman of incredible faith, which she maintained, her entire life.

She is survived by her sister, Lucy Jean Clark Yutzy, of Cumberland; many nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as family, and many friends, from Pendleton County, W.Va.

She was predeceased by son, John Thomas Conaway; and brother, John Henry Clark, Jr.

The family will receive friends, from 10 to 11 a.m., on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville, where a funeral service will follow, at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
