Joan Elizabeth "Joanie" Lambert Obituary

Romney, WV - Joan Elizabeth "Joanie" Lambert (née Lang), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and active member of her community, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on May 31, 1947, and raised in Manassas, Virginia, Joanie married the love of her life, Merle D. Lambert Sr., on Jan. 21, 1966. Together they shared more than sixty years of marriage, building a family, a business, and a life filled with friendship, laughter, and service to others.

Joanie was the mother of Michele Marvin, Ken Lambert, and Merle Lambert Jr. She was a proud grandmother to Merle Lambert III, Matt Lambert, Kelly Shaffer, Dana Snyder, and Samantha Marvin, and a cherished great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Mary "Bootie" Keyser; and her brother, Ricky Lang.

Together with her husband, she co-owned Romney Electrical and Plumbing Supply. While Merle was often the face of the business, Joanie managed the bookkeeping, accounting, and countless details that kept everything running smoothly.

Joanie believed in being involved. She volunteered for many years with the Christmas in Romney Committee and the Summer Harvest Festival, faithfully served as an election poll worker, and participated in the Romney Business and Professional Organization.

Friendship brought her great joy. She loved her Red Hat Sisters and cherished her "game girls," with whom she spent many happy hours playing mahjong, canasta, and sharing stories and laughter.

Joanie was also a lifelong believer in staying active. From aerobics and weight training to kickboxing, yoga, and water aerobics, she enjoyed whatever class happened to be offered at 9 a.m. She often joked that her goal was to do a burpee at age 80.

More than anything, Joanie will be remembered for the values she lived every day. She encouraged others to "be kind, be courteous, and let people be who they want to be, and treat them with respect." She reminded those she loved to "be positive" and believed firmly that "you are responsible for making yourself happy."

She was preceded in death by her parents, Silas Vernon Lang and Evelyn Elizabeth Lang (nee Theimer); her brother, Floyd Lang; and her beloved dog, Peanut.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 12 noon with a visitation one-hour prior. Officiating will be Bucky Wilson, and interment will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Points.
