JoAnn Ankeney Obituary

Hagerstown, MD - JoAnn Ankeney, 84, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, at Doey's House surrounded by her loving family.

Born Aug. 5, 1941, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles Ernest Nixon and Pauline Greenwood (Crabtree) Fox.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clyde Woodrow Ankeney Jr., in 2013.

She was a 1959 graduate of Oldtown High School. JoAnn retired in 2009 after 23 years of employment from First Data in Hagerstown.

She was a member of the Pocahontas Red Feather Council 59 in Williamsport and a former member of the Mercersburg Moose. JoAnn cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who always called her Mamaw.

She is survived by three daughters, Pam Robinson (Greg) of Oldtown, Md., Debbie Mills (Tony) of Clear Spring, and Kim Hose (Charlie "Buck") of Clear Spring; five grandchildren, Ashley N. Roberts, Jeremy L. Robinson, Cory W. Mills, Jesse L. Robinson and Karlie R. Mundey; 11 great-grandchildren, Blake, Harper, Easton, Everhett, Emmett, Elin, Cameron, Grayson, Gentry, Chayce and Avery; and two sisters, Shirley P. Kimble and Glenda M. Keyser, both of Oldtown.

In addition to her husband and parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her stepfather, Emmett B. Fox; a son, Clyde Woodrow Ankeney III; a granddaughter, Natasha N. Ankeney; and a brother, Ronald C. Nixon.

Services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, MD. Father Steven McCarty will officiate. Interment will follow at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery in Flintstone, Md., at 2 p.m.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, from 10 to 11 a.m.

JoAnn's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Seaton Assisted Living, Hospice of Washington County and Doey's House for their love and care during JoAnn's stay.
