John Stephen Bauman Obituary

Cumberland, MD - CUMBERLAND [mdash] John Stephen Bauman, 76, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025, at UPMC-Mercy in Pittsburgh.

Born March 7, 1949, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles and Edith Bauman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, JoAnn Bauman, Robert Bauman, Charles Bauman, and William Bauman.

A graduate of Ridgeley High School, John proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, earning two Purple Hearts. He later worked for the railroad as a Conductor and part-time with the U.S. Postal Service as a Distribution Clerk.

He served as a captain in the Civil Air Patrol and was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus Council 10545 in Keyser, W.Va., and the Cumberland Scottish Rite.

John loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and enjoyed sharing that passion with his children. He also enjoyed simple parts of life, including regular trips to Walmart and eating all-you-can-eat crabs.

John's legacy is not only in the stories and memories left behind, but also in the values he instilled in those he loved: a love for nature, selfless generosity and kindness, and a reminder to always leave others better than we found them. His impact will never fade, living on in the hearts of family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.

He is survived by his loving wife of seventeen years, Karnpuntita "Nok" Bauman; his children, Edward Stephen Norman and wife, Victoria; Ketkalyakorn "Earn" Parkin and husband, Stephen; and Charntitanut "Aom" Bauman; a sister, Barbara Sue Evans, and husband, Cleatus; a brother, James Bauman, and wife, Molly; and a large extended family.

Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Tuesday, April 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial services will be conducted during the evening visitation by the Civil Air Patrol, Knights of Columbus, and Queen City Lodge 131 A.F. & A.M.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 30, beginning at 11 a.m., with Pastor Daniel Thompson officiating.

Interment will be in MD State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, with military honors accorded by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
