John Leo Lechliter Obituary

Fort Ashby, WV - John Leo Lechliter, 90, of Coolidge, Ariz., formerly of Fort Ashby, W.Va., died June 23, 2026, at Banner Hospital, Casa Grande.

Born Jan. 25, 1936, in Short Gap, W.Va., he was the son of the late David E. Lechliter and Mary Elizabeth (Powell) Lechliter.

He was also preceded in death by a son, John L. Lechliter II; his twin brother, Thomas "Tom" Lechliter; and sister, Esther McKenzie.

Survivors include his wife, Sue (Kesner) Lechliter; two sons, Jeff Lechliter and Brian Lechliter; siblings, Calvin Lechliter and wife Mary, and Shirley Pyles and husband Dave; grandchildren, Natalie Ruth, John Christopher, Mark Anthony, Brian Michael and Mary Ann Catherine; and great-grandchildren, Bailey Rose, Patrick Leo, Anna Grace, Charles Michael and Ameilia Mae.

John was a graduate of Fort Ashby High School and studied air conditioning at the Vo-Tech School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in England.

John retired from Pittsburgh Plate and Glass, where he had been a polisher.

He had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

In his spare time/retirement time, John was a handyman in the area — helping many folks with electrical, plumbing and heating issues, as well as carpentry work. You could always count on John to help you out!

As per his wishes, John was cremated. A private burial will be held in the Fort Ashby Cemetery.
