John E. Senn Obituary

Ridgeley, WV - John E. Senn, 89, of Ridgeley, West Virginia, died May 1, 2025, at UPMC Western Maryland.

Born Aug. 20, 1935, in Wiley Ford, he was the son of the late Joseph and Katherine (Clark) Senn.

He was preceded in death by siblings William Senn, Robert "Bobby" Senn and June Skidmore, and grandson-in-law Christopher M. Peirce.

He proudly and honorably served an enlistment in the U.S. Army.

John retired from United Parcel Service in 1997 as a truck driver after previously working at Harris Motor Express, Smith's Transfer and Yellow Freight in a career that spanned 40-plus years.

He was a lifetime member of Fort Ashby Post #6667, V.F.W.; Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #271; and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #2883.

Over the years, John enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, watching the birds at their feeders, doing puzzles and reading. He loved listening to bluegrass music and had quite a sweet tooth, especially when it came to cherry pie, Oreos and Dum Dums! John was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics, Pittsburgh Pirates and any of the WVU teams. He had an appreciation for road maps and exploring the various routes one could take to reach a destination. Most of all, John loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Sherrell; children, John Douglas "Doug" Senn and wife Missy, and Lori Thomas; sister, Helen Petit; grandchildren, Brett Thomas and wife Marie, Lauren Peirce and husband Gary Marlowe, Turner Senn and Emily Senn; great-grandchildren, Carter Peirce, Logan Thomas and Avery Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Fort Ashby, on Friday, May 9, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
