Josefina Figueroa Obituary
LaVale, MD - With great sadness, we announce that Josefina Dado Figueroa passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2026, beloved wife of Dr. Augusto Fojas Figueroa Jr.; devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; dedicated nurse; and respected community leader, affectionately known as Josie.
A proud member of the Class of 1959 of the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital School of Nursing (UP-PGHSN), Josefina pursued a distinguished career in nursing as an operating room nurse, serving others with compassion, skill, precision and unwavering dedication.
Beyond her profession, she was deeply committed to community service and medical advocacy. She was an active member and served as president of the Allegany County Medical Society Auxiliary, and later as state president of the Auxiliary to MedChi (Maryland State Medical Society), where she worked tirelessly in support of physicians, healthcare initiatives and charitable causes.
Josefina will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Marijoy (Figueroa) Keenan and her husband, David; Mimi (Figueroa) Castillo and her husband, Cesar; and Ginny (Figueroa) Quinn and her fiancé, Jonathan Petrelli.
She was a cherished grandmother to Dr. Sarah Keenan and her husband, Jason Harkness, and their children, Julia, Audrey, and Adam; Patrick Keenan; Dr. Ryan Keenan and his wife, Dr. Denise Keenan; and Andrew Keenan and his wife, Naia.
Josefina had a fondness for the family dogs, whose presence brought her joy over the years.
She was also known for her love and appreciation for fashion and elegance, often drawn to her favorite color, red, and carrying herself with grace, style and a natural sense of class.
She had a special gift for music and enjoyed playing the piano by memory, a talent she continued to share in her later years—most recently at the loving request of her great-grandchildren, bringing joy to all who listened.
Josefina's warmth, intelligence, strength, generosity and unwavering love for her family touched all who knew her. Through her work as a nurse, her leadership in the Allegany County Medical Society Auxiliary and the Auxiliary to MedChi (Maryland State Medical Society), and her devotion to family and community, she leaves behind a lasting legacy of compassion, service, faith and love.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, colleagues and all whose lives she enriched.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Ursula Church, 8801 Harford Road, Parkville, with interment to follow at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonium.
