Keyser, WV - KEYSER, W.Va. [mdash] Joseph Wayne Winebrenner, 90, of Harley O. Staggers Drive, Keyser, W.Va., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, at his residence while under the care of WVU Medicine Hospice.

Born on Jan. 4, 1935, in Lonaconing, Md., he was a son of the late Charles E. and Virginia (Bittinger) Winebrenner. He also was preceded in death by a stepson, Harold Vance "Boo" Liller; a son-in-law, Charles Smith; two sisters, Mary Lorraine Weir and husband Robert, and Kathy Fitzgerald; two brothers, Richard Edward Winebrenner and Arlie C. Winebrenner; a sister-in-law, Sharon Staggs; and a brother-in-law, Harold Gillum.

Mr. Winebrenner was retired as a licensed journeyman pipefitter with the Westvaco Luke Mill. He also was the owner and operator of J & J Enterprises and was employed by Sun Distributors for several years. He and his wife also operated D & J Enterprises, serving as a factory representative for heating products from 1992 to 2015. He also served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Headsville Community Church.

Joe was lifetime musician and was proficient on the guitar, mandolin and fiddle, and was the founder and long-time member of Highland Grass.

Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Donna S. (Davy) Winebrenner; his children, Joseph W. Winebrenner Jr. and wife Janet of Alva, Fla., Darlene Smith of Westernport, Md., Theresa Leigh and husband Phil of Bluffton, S.C., Lisa Rohrbaugh and husband Charlie of Romney, W.Va., and Colleen Ackerman and husband Mike of Keyser; one brother, Charles E. Winebrenner and wife Barb of Lonaconing, Md.; two sisters, Marlene J. Bittinger and husband John of Hancock, Md., and Carolyn Gillum of Hagerstown, Md.; grandchildren, Amy Link, Lance Donahue, Joshua Smith, Jodi Smith Fazenbaker, Justin Smith, Tommy Crites, Jessie Crites Wheeler, Jerimiah Crites, Ashlen Barnes, Jordan Barnes, Megan Osburn, Caitlin Shetler and Derek Ackerman; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Ellen Winebrenner of Barton, Md., Janie Mongold and husband Larry, and Tammy Stickley and husband Dave, all of Keyser; and brothers-in-law, Richard Fitzgerald of Barton, John Davy and wife Vera of Burlington, W.Va., Dean Davy and wife Nancy of Purgitsville, W.Va., and Wayne Staggs and wife Judy of Keyser.

Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, at 11 a.m., with Charles E. Winebrenner officiating. Military honors will be accorded.

Private interment will be in the Headsville Cemetery at a later date.
