Short Gap, WV - Leonard Theodore "Ted" Simpson, 87, went to be with the Lord March 31, 2026, at his home in Short Gap, W.Va.

Ted was born on March 20, 1939, to the late Henry J. and Daisy A. Simpson in Horseshoe, W.Va.

Ted joined the Marine Corps in 1960 and served in the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in February 1966.

Ted worked at Kelly Springfield for 22 1/2 years. He then worked at Abex in Winchester, Va., for five years.

He was a member of the Mountainside Marines, a member of Post 13, and an Honor Guard participant. He was a member of the Cresaptown Eagles #2883, Ridgeley Post #6452 and Fort Ashby Post #6667 of the VFW. He was a volunteer coordinator of the Department of Veterans Affairs of Maryland for over seven years.

Ted married Linda Showalter on July 29, 1964.

Surviving, with his wife of nearly 62 years, are his sons, Leonard Theodore "Teddy" Simpson Jr., Brian Simpson and wife Shelley, Kevin Simpson and wife Tracy; and a brother, Donald "Jeep" Simpson and wife Sandy.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Maxwell and Wayne Simpson; one sister, Sarah Harbaugh; and his daughter, Crystal Popluhar.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the women of the WVU Hospice for their wonderful care.

At his request, no services will be conducted.

The Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
