Leroy Solmon House Jr.

Keyser, West Virginia - KEYSER, W.Va. [mdash] Leroy S. House Jr., 87, of Keyser, went to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, Dec. 26, 2025, at WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Born on July 9, 1938, in Rawlings, Maryland, he was the son of the late LeRoy S. House Sr. and Evelyn E. (Hawk) House. He was also preceded in death by his brother James E. House Sr.; and sister, Alice M. (House) Duckworth.

LeRoy was a graduate of Bruce High School class of 1956. After graduation, he worked at the A & P in Westernport and the Garment Factory in Keyser before beginning his 40-year career at Westvaco as a Millwright - Journeyman.

LeRoy was a First Sergeant, serving the West Virginia Army National Guard for 27 years, and Operation Desert Storm (1990-1991) for the 1/201st Field Artillery Battalion - Battery B. He received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal.

He was a member of the Keyser American Legion Post 41, a lifetime member of VFW Post 3518, former member of the Luke and Fountain Fire Departments, and served on the Mineral County Civil Service Commission.

LeRoy was a faithful attendee at Centenary United Methodist Church. His hobbies included woodworking, yardwork, WVU football, washing his cars, and being the official family dishwasher.

Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Victoria S. (Umstot) House, his children, Sonja N. Stanislawczyk and husband, Michael of Keyser; Melissa D. Bess and husband, Charles of New Creek; Timothy S. House and wife, Debra; and Stacy M. Huffman and husband, Michael, all of Nashville, Tenn. He is also survived by two special brothers-in-law, Gary L. Umstot and Timothy L. Umstot (Anna) of Keyser. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Halea Bristow (Steven), Logan Stanislawczyk, Rennick Bess (fiancée Lydia), Alexa Bess, Brittany Schroder (Will), Sydney Bedenbaugh (Will), Mandy Womble (Zach), Seth House; and his four great-grandchildren, Arie, Caroline, Colt and Lawson; as well as numerous special nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Robert Fazzalore officiating. Interment will follow at Cabin Run Cemetery, with graveside military honors.
