Lloyd "John" Franklin Hendrickson Obituary

Rawlings, MD - Lloyd "John" Franklin Hendrickson, of Rawlings, passed away on May 14, 2026, at home surrounded by his family after a three-year battle with kidney disease.

Born in Granstville, Md., on June 9, 1943, to the late Rosella (Spiker) Hendrickson, Kenneth Gates (of Iowa) and Edward Hendrickson.

Raised in Grantsville and Potomac Park he attended Allegany High School, graduating in 1961. After high school, he served his country in the Navy as a jet mechanic aboard the USS Enterprise. Upon discharge, he became employed with Western Electric, which eventually became Verizon, from which he retired in 2003.

A lover of sports, particularly basketball, he coached several youth leagues and played recreationally for many many years. He was past president of The Communication Workers of America/Telephone Pioneers Union, as well as the Cresaptown Eagles. He was an avid car lover, owning several Corvettes and BMW's throughout his lifetime.

Surviving to remember and cherish his devotion and love are the love of his life; his devoted wife of 60 years, Carole Ann (Knight) Hendrickson of Rawlings; daughter, Dana (Tim Haines) of Cumberland; and son, Aaron Hendrickson of Potomac Park; two sisters, Sharon Gregory (Warren) of Cumberland, and Debra Cowgill (Dwight) of Ridgeley, W.Va.; one brother, Edward (Skip) Hendrickson of Cresaptown; and special great-nephew, Brandon McRobie of Cumberland; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends from Potomac Park.

Per his wishes, there will be no services.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Rahm and staff at the Dialysis Center; Doctors Mavramatis and Rasheed; hospice; and all the wonderful nurses and medical staff for their compassion and care over the past three years.
