Cumberland, MD - Marilyn Lee (Brenneman) Adam, 83, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at Kensington Assisted Living, surrounded by her family.

Born in Washington, D.C. on February 24, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Cecil E. and A. Helena (Stark) Brenneman.

Marilyn was a 1960 graduate of Northern Garrett High School. She worked as a teller at Liberty Trust Bank and later First National Bank in downtown Cumberland.

She was interested in genealogy and traced her family's roots back to the American Revolution. She joined and was active in the local branch of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also active with the Daughters of the Nile Re Temple No. 118, serving as Queen in 1999.

Marilyn was an accomplished seamstress, making beautiful clothing, draperies, etc., and was skilled at other handicrafts such as embroidery, cross stitch, crochet, and latch hook. Family and friends were often gifted with items she made herself.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Captain Winfield H. Adam, USCG, Ret. in 2002 and by her sister, Betty J. Kroll in 2020. She is survived by her sister, Rae Ann (Jeff) Smith; nephew Scott (Renae) Sisler; nieces, Shanna Ritter and Wendy Kroll (Kerry Merrbach); nephew, Brent (Sarah) Frazee; niece, Kari (Brent) Harbaugh; stepsons, Peter (Nancy) Adam, David (Sue Ellen) Adam, Mark (Robin)

Adam; stepdaughters, Sue (Ted) Snider, Virginia (Punki) (Paul) Chorpenning, and Leslie (John) Stranko. She is also survived by seven great-nieces and nephews, 17 step-grandchildren, and numerous step-great grandchildren.

Per her wishes, Marilyn will be cremated. Visitation will be at Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene Street, Cumberland, on Saturday, May 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Daniel Swanson, officiating.

Inurnment of Marilyn and her late husband Winfield Adam will follow at Grantsville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 3551 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, Pa. 19140.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Kensington Assisted Living for their loving care of Marilyn while she was a resident there and especially during her last days.
