Hedgesville, WV - Marion Elizabeth "Liz" Dunne, RN, MS, 81, of Hedgesville, W.Va., passed away peacefully after a life devoted to caring for others and advancing the nursing profession.

Born Jan. 8, 1945, in Cumberland, Md., she is the daughter of the late Hugh Wilson and Marion Woy Wilson.

A respected nurse educator, mentor and healthcare leader, Liz dedicated more than three decades to improving patient care through education, professional development and clinical excellence.

Liz earned a nursing diploma from Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the College of Notre Dame, and a Master of Science in Nursing Education and Staff Development from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, with a clinical focus in gerontology. Her academic achievements included nomination to Who's Who Among American University and College Students and membership in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Throughout her distinguished career, Liz held numerous leadership positions in Maryland healthcare institutions. She served as Director of the Education Resource Center at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, where she coordinated orientation, training and continuing education programs for hospital staff and played a key role in competency assessment and quality improvement initiatives.

Her dedication to professional development helped shape generations of nurses and healthcare providers.

Prior to her work at Sinai Hospital, Liz spent 14 years at Northwest Hospital Center in Randallstown, Md., progressing from clinical instructor to nursing instructor/clinician and ultimately Director of Nursing, Clinical Services.

During her tenure, she developed innovative educational programs, led quality improvement efforts and was instrumental in creating specialized training initiatives, including programs focused on geriatric care and the assimilation of international nurses into the healthcare workforce.

Earlier in her career, Liz served at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Md., and Garrett County Memorial Hospital in Oakland, Md., where she provided compassionate patient care in a variety of clinical settings, including emergency medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, medical-surgical nursing, orthopedics and rehabilitation.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Michael Dunne.

Services will be private.

Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
