Oldtown, Maryland - Mary "Betty" Elizabeth (Funkhouser) Richards, 95, of Oldtown, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at UPMC Western Maryland.

Born April 3, 1930, in Unger, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Claude William and Mary Katherine (Davis) Funkhouser. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth David Richards Jr.; son, Kenneth David Richards III; and three siblings, William Funkhouser, Marie Wathen and Charles Funkhouser.

Betty loved to bowl and cook. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church and loved her church family. Betty never met a stranger. Above all, she loved her family and God. Betty looked forward to the second coming of Christ.

Betty is survived by her children, Nancy Koury and husband Peter, John Richards and wife Kimberley, and Robert Richards and wife Lisa; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as many chosen family members.

Interment will be in Shyrock Cemetery, Oldtown, Md.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to Ark of Hope Rescue, 13400 Arctic Ridge Lane, Oldtown, MD 21555, in honor of Betty's memory.
