Fort Ashby, WV - Mary Jo (Brodbeck) Elder, 90, of Fort Ashby, died Thursday, May 8, 2025 at The Kensington.

Born November 21, 1934 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George R. Brodbeck and Gladys (Messick) Brodbeck.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Kay "Juice" Elder.

Mary Jo was a 1952 graduate of Allegany High School.

She was a registered nurse, having retired from Memorial Hospital where she was the Head of Surgery for numerous years.

Mary Jo was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Cumberland.

Survivors include her sister, Judy Brodbeck; cousins, Karen Cullinane, Eric Shryock, and Terri Shryock; and special friends, Sharon and Bernie Clark and family, and Jan and Paul Livengood and family.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Fort Ashby, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m..

The funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gary Barkley officiating.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692, or to the First Church of the Nazarene, 508 E. Oldtown Rd., Cumberland, Md. 21502.
