Lusby, MD - Mary Katherine (Newnam) Ritter passed away April 4, 2026. She was born Dec. 6, 1939, in Cumberland, Md., to the late Katherine (Alderton) Newnam and William K. Newnam.

She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Ann Moore Newnam; her husband, Francis J. Ritter; sister, Carol (Newnam) Miley; and brother, Richard S. Shaffer.

She is survived by her sister, JoAnn (Shaffer) Dressman of Cumberland, Md.; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews of the Denver, Colo., area.

Mary Katherine was a 1957 graduate of Fort Hill High School. She loved sharing stories, visiting family and friends, and traveling.

She lived in Burke, Va., and spent her career working for the Department of Agriculture. She retired to Lusby, Md., loving the beach at Cove Point. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and colleagues.

She was a longtime member of Our Lady Star of the Sea, Solomon's Island.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Shrine, 125 Fayette St., Cumberland, MD. Interment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Fayette Street.
