Keyser, WV - Mary E. Markle, 91, of Keyser, W.Va., died on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at the Hampshire Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit in Romney, W.Va.
Born on May 7, 1934, in Stephens City, Va., she was a daughter of the late William and Virginia (Ritenour) Headley. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Markle Sr., on May 4, 2015; two sons, Douglas Headley and Franklin McDaniel; a daughter, Deborah Ellifritz; a stepson, Douglas Lutman; and a grandson, Kennet Markle III. Mrs. Markle was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Mary was a 1952 graduate of James Wood High School in Winchester, Va., and was Methodist by faith. She and her late husband greatly loved operating their farm, and she also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and making baby quilts. She was a member of Chapter 191 Women of the Moose and Ladies Auxiliary to Nancy Hanks Post #3518, VFW, both of Keyser.
Surviving are her children, Donna Feaster of Cumberland, Md., Melinda Evans and husband Nut of Keyser, Kenneth L. Markle Jr. and wife Mickey of Keyser, and John Markle and wife Linda of Keyser; a daughter-in-law, Chris Lutman of Piedmont, W.Va.; a son-in-law, Ernie Ellifritz of New Creek, W.Va.; 18 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
At Mrs. Markle's request, there will be no visitation or services.
The Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, Keyser, is in charge of the arrangements.
