Frostburg, MD - Mary Ella Zimmermann, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, in Frostburg, Md., at the age of 93.

Born on Aug. 14, 1932, in Cumberland, Md., Mary lived a life rich with love, dedication and service to her family and community.

Mary graduated from Fort Hill High School as part of the Class of 1950. During this time she was active in cheerleading and dancing, often performing for high school events, and remained an active member of the Class Reunion Committee throughout her life. She cherished the bonds formed in those early years, regularly meeting for lunch with her lifelong friends to reminisce about "the good ole' days."

Alongside her late husband, Conrad "Connie" Zimmermann, Mary co-owned the Sunshine Laundromat in Cumberland. She later served as supervisor of housekeeping and volunteers at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

Mary had a profound passion for gardening and home decorating, talents she generously shared with her family and church community. She delighted in creating beautiful bouquets for her children's and grandchildren's weddings, infusing these special occasions with her artistic touch.

She previously attended Central Assembly of God and was currently a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cumberland. Mary left an indelible mark through her commitment to beautifying the church for many years. Her faith and creativity brought joy and inspiration to all who knew her.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Connie; her parents, Robert E. Shrout Jr. and Hilda (Kitzmiller) Shrout; and her brothers, Robert "Bob" Shrout and Richard "Dick" Shrout.

She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Gilardi of Frostburg, Md.; and her son, Craig Zimmermann and wife Chrissy, of Cumberland. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Jessica Schrock and husband Dustin, Amanda Zimmermann and husband Stephen, Justin Zimmermann and wife Liz, Kathryn Zimmermann, Logan Gilardi, and Michaela Gilardi; as well as her 10 treasured great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 930 Frederick St., Cumberland, MD, on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon. A funeral service will immediately follow at noon, with Pastor David Hattenfield officiating. Interment will be at the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery.
