Cumberland, Maryland - Michael Christopher Mathews, 76, of Cumberland, Md., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, at his home.

Born Oct. 12, 1949, in Cumberland, Michael was the son of the late James G. Mathews and Margaret E. (Leatherman) Mathews. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Pamela T. Mathews.

Michael was in the first graduating class of Bishop Walsh in 1967 and was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he held the rank of sergeant. He retired from UPMC Western Maryland and worked at Sacred Heart as a front desk greeter for many years. Michael was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church. He loved spending time reading, and especially loved going to lunch with his friends and family.

Michael is survived by his siblings, Timothy Mathews (Kathy), Greg Mathews (Mary), Sharon Mathews (Donna), Susie Carr (Bill), Sheila Mathews, Cathy Levi, Nancy Lutz (Lou) and Victoria Stein (Greg); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, MD, www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com, on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m.

A requiem Mass will be celebrated at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 16 Washington St., Cumberland, MD, on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. John Reardon as celebrant.

Military honors will be accorded at the church by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
