Springfield, West Virginia - Michael Douglas McCrory, 49, of Springfield, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, in Morgantown. He was born July 17, 1974, to John and Rosellen McCrory in Wilson, N.C.

Michael attended Wells and Greenfield Schools. He was a graduate of Ralph L. Fike High School in Wilson, N.C., Louisburg College in Louisburg, N.C., and North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. Michael had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He appreciated the wonders of the natural world. Exploring the woods, foraging, hunting, and fishing especially pleased him. Michael followed his dream to live and fish on Hatteras Island, N.C.

Michael and Sherri were introduced by a mutual friend, Barry Crum, a resident of Buxton, N.C. They married on June 30, 2007, at Blackwater Falls in West Virginia. They built their home in Springfield, W.Va., near where Sherri was raised. Later, they were blessed with a daughter, Aidan Ansel McCrory, in July 2008.

They both eventually would teach at Hampshire High School as science teachers next door to each other, where they enjoyed sharing experiences and stories with their students. They have been blessed with many lifelong friends made through their teaching careers.

Survivors include his wife, Sherri; their daughter, Aidan; his mother, Rosellen McCrory; his mother-in-law, Linda Mongold; his sister, Jennifer Fontes and her husband, Sanjay Das; and his nephew, Matthew McCrory Fontes. Michael will also be missed by his many beloved pets.

A Memorial Visitation of Michael's life will be held on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney, W.Va.
