Cumberland, MD - CUMBERLAND [mdash] Mildred Lee Athey, 94, of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born September 17, 1930, in Cumberland, Mildred was the daughter of the late Emory Edgar Shriver and Edna Lee (Sheppard) Shriver. She was also preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 57 years, Irving "Bud" Athey; a daughter, Dianne Athey; her brother, William Shriver; and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A homemaker, Mildred was a graduate of Flintstone High School Class of 1948 and was a member of the Tuesday Morning Coffee Bowling League for 20 years. She was also a member of the Golden Agers Club of the Salvation Army.
She and Bud wintered in Zephyrhills, Florida, for 12 years and they enjoyed camping together and taking their grandsons with them.
She was active in activities at Mountainview Apartments, and enjoyed the Sunday church group and would make a cake every week for after their service. When she went to Allegany Nursing and Rehab, she took part in many activities, including her favorite, Bingo! She loved watching the Baltimore Orioles!
Mildred is survived by her daughters, Linda McVaugh and husband, Joe; and Cheryl Brant and husband, Jeff; and her grandchildren, Gary Ullery and Chris Ullery; and Adam Brant and partner, Elissa Nolte.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Allegany Health for all the care and compassion given.
Services were private and interment was in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
