Monsignor James W. Hannon, born on April 10, 1953, died on Oct. 6, 2024. He was the devoted son of the late Joseph F. and the late Emily (Breinich) Hannon. Jim was the loving brother of Patricia Burkentine and her husband, John, and was predeceased by his bothers, Andrew and Joseph Hannon. He was also the devoted uncle to many nieces and nephews as well as great-uncle to many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Jim loved music. During his early adult years, he composed many pieces of music that were used regularly at the Celebration of Mass. He also was fortunate to have several of these compositions published. He was a competent guitarist but his true love was the sound and beauty of the pipe organ. He loved many genres of music but his favorite was classical, particularly Bach.

Jim began his discernment to priesthood at Saint Paul Latin High School, later graduating from Cardinal Gibbons High School, in its seminary preparation program. He graduated from Loyola College (now Loyola University Maryland). In addition, he earned graduate degrees from the Theological College of the Catholic University of America. He was ordained to the Priesthood of the Catholic Church in May, 1988. He served as Associate Pastor in several parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Baltimore, before being appointed Pastor of multiple parishes in Western Maryland, where he served faithfully until his appointment as Associate Director and then Director of Clergy Personnel for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Jim was honored with the elevation to the title of Monsignor in 2015. During his tenure as Director of Clergy Personnel, Msgr. Hannon was appointed Vicar for the Western Vicariate and served until his appointment to his final assignment at Our Lady of Grace in Parkton in 2019. Jim took a medical leave of absence in 2021 and then medical retirement in 2022.

Friends will be received on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Divine Mercy Parish/Saint Peter Catholic Church, 127 Church Street, Westernport, Md., at which time a Funeral Mass will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Saint Peter Cemetery.
