Nellie May Long
Nellie May Long, 98, of Ridgeley, W.Va., passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, at Dawn View Nursing Home.
Born March 29, 1921, in Oldtown, she was the daughter of the late Edward R. and Emma (Buser) Twigg. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Robert L.. Long in 1985; her second husband, Thomas Everett in 1994; four brothers, Franklin T. Twigg, Theodore W. Twigg, Millard B. Twigg, and John H. Twigg; sister, Edith E. Smith; nephew, whom she reared, Franklin "Tommy" Twigg; son-in-law, Ronald E. Moreland; stepdaughter-in-law, Ann Everett.
Mrs. Long loved the Lord and shared her devotion for him with everyone she encountered. She was a homemaker and really expressed her love for family and neighbors with her cooking, especially her German chocolate cake and pies. She attended First Baptist Church, Fort Ashby, W.Va., was a former Sunday School teacher at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, Short Gap, W.Va., and at St. Paul's Methodist Church, Patterson Creek, W.Va. She had a tremendous love of birds, gardening and tending flowers. Mrs. Long was like a Grandma to many and would take lots of family into her home.
Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca Jane Moreland, Ridgeley, and Benita Diane Clauze and husband, Richard, Slanesville, W.Va.; stepson, Gary Everett, Stephens City, Va.; sister, Mary (Twigg) Grady-Brakeall and husband, Pastor Benny, Ridgeley; two grandchildren, Brock D. Moreland and wife, Leslie, Ridgeley, and Brent S. Moreland, Ridgeley; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Moreland and wife, Lisa, and Carly (Moreland) Pryor and husband, Tyler; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home immediately following at 1 p.m. with Pastor Benny Brakeall officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
The family thanks the Dawnview Center and staff for their love and care while she was a resident.
