Norma Jean (Twigg) Davis O'Neal Obituary

Cumberland, Maryland - Norma Jean (Twigg) Davis O'Neal, 87, of Potomac Park, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, after a brief illness.

Born May 4, 1938, in Cumberland, Norma was the daughter of the late Arnold and Goldie (Sweitzer) Twigg. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Twigg; her beloved son, Gary Allan Davis; her first husband, Grant Davis, in 1991; and her second husband, William O'Neal, in 2015.

Norma grew up in Cumberland and graduated from Allegany High School. As a teenager, she met the love of her life, Grant "Dick" Davis. She married him in 1956, and they had 35 happy years together until he passed away in 1991. She was lovingly known as "Bubba" by the Bowling Green Gang in the neighborhood where she and Dick raised their kids. Throughout the years, she also worked at Celanese Corp. and as a loving caregiver for several elderly residents in the Cumberland area.

Norma met Bill in 1993, and they were married in 1995. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Nile, the September Singers, the Red Hat Society and enjoyed the monthly luncheons with her Alco classmates at the Cumberland Country Club. She was a beloved member of the Never Too Late Girls and spent many happy years performing with the dance group throughout the area. She loved tap dancing and made all of her own costumes. She and Bill traveled a lot, and she even was the rookie bowling champ during a trip to New Jersey.

The biggest legacy that Norma leaves us with is the love she spread wherever she went. She loved her four children fiercely and went on to extend that love to her nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. "Pink Grandma" spent countless hours with all of the kids, saved their art work, teeth and locks of hair, and let them play dress up with her vast wardrobe of costumes. She was always "ridding out" her closets, and everyone got a birthday gift one time or another from her storehouse of collected treasures. We always teased her that she never missed a bargain at a yard sale or Goodwill!

Norma is survived by her sisters, Janis Taylor; her children, Danny Davis (Bronwyn), Pam Hughes (Rick) and Grant Davis (Leslie); grandchildren, Chelsea Davis, Sophie Davis (Bryan), Jake Hughes (Meghan), Rachel Hughes (Desmond), JaDon Bell, Jill Glass (Garrett), Jessie Milson (Kyle), Ryan Johnson (Katie), Reilly Johnson; and her sisters-in-law, Wilma Twigg and Norita Bridges; as well as her 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, MD, www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com, on Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Harold McClay Jr. officiating.

Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery on Baltimore Pike.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bowling Green and Cresaptown VFDs or the Ali Ghan Shrine Club.
