Patricia Ann (Croft) Stevens Obituary

Patricia Ann (Croft) Stevens completed her earthly pilgrimage on Sept. 10, 2024, at the Cumberland Healthcare Center, where she had been a resident since 2018. Patty and her husband, Jim, previously resided on Beall Street, Cumberland.

Born Dec. 22, 1945, in Cumberland, Patty was the daughter of the late Charles L. Croft, Sr. and Josephine (Rodeheaver) Croft. She was also preceded in death by brother-in-law, Ronald R. Stevens; sister-in-law, Janet M. (Stevens) Miller; and sister-in-law, Linda (Byer) Croft.

Patty is survived by her husband, James H. Stevens, Jr.; brother, Charles L. Croft, Jr. and wife Sherry; nieces, Lisa Courtney and Valerie Milburn; numerous cousins, and her precious "children" that participated in her daycare program over the years. She is also survived by extended family, Bryan and Marlene Ramsey, Randy and Kari Brown and their daughters, Jenna and Jordy.

Patty was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Cumberland, where she taught Sunday School, served in the nursery, and served on the Altar Ward as the Directress until her health prevented her from completing her duties. Patty was also a member and Past President of Ladies Auxiliary, Council #586, Knights of Columbus.

Patty graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1964 and Catherman's Business School. Her first full-time job was as a bookkeeper for Wilson and Pugh Hardware Store in downtown Cumberland. She worked for Wes-Mar Communications, Cumberland, as a bookkeeper and receptionist. She then spent most of her working life operating a small home daycare center which brought her great joy.

Family and friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m.

The funeral service be conducted at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 16 Washington Street, Cumberland, on Friday at 11 a.m., with The Rt. Rev. Martin G. Townsend officiating. Friends will be received an hour prior to the service.

There will be a private interment at St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers and in recognition of her many years of service to the Altar Ward, the family suggests memorial donations to the Emmanuel Altar Ward, 24 Washington Street, Cumberland, MD 21502.
