Patricia Jean Thomas Obituary

Frostburg, MD - Patricia Jean Thomas, 91, of Frostburg, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, surrounded by family love, current and past.

She was born June 29, 1934, to the late John and Freda Hott Rice. She was predeceased by her sisters, Millie Lou Lynn and Eva Belle Morgan; and her brothers, James Nevon Rice and Clarence "Bud" Rice.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 73 years, George A. Thomas of Frostburg. She leaves behind a legacy of her six children, Michele Dobson, Jan (Paul) Gaines, Brenda (Steven) Hansel, Terri (Donald) West, Patti Thomas and Marty (Amy) Thomas. She is further survived by 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, with one due in December, and four great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Audrey Glass; and too many nieces and nephews to accurately count.

Pat Thomas retired from the business office of Memorial Hospital. That was her paying job. Her main joy was taking care of her husband and family. She really enjoyed making desserts. She crocheted many blankets and was an amazing, mostly self-taught artist. She was an avid reader. You knew it was a good book if there was a left-handed check mark inside the front cover.

Pat also played the piano and the organ for many years at Carlos Methodist Church and Allegheny Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong active member.

Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, MD, on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 4 p.m., with Pastor Seth Wharton.

The family would like to thank UPMC Home Hospice, especially Pastor Seth Wharton, physical therapist Jane Rossi and aide Theresa Dietz for their kindness, compassion and professionalism.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to UPMC Home Hospice, or a cancer-related organization, in memory of Patricia and in honor of family cancer survivors: daughter, Michele; daughter, Georgann; granddaughter, Megan Carney; and great-granddaughter, Madi Nelson.

To our oldest sister, we, the five youngest siblings, would like to publicly praise our amazing sister Michele for the endless love, devotion, respect and exceptional care provided to both of our parents the past nine months. Also, to Michele's incredible daughters, Jennifer Race, Rebecca Kerling, Jessica McKenzie and Stacey Bleecker, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the physical and emotional support you provided to your mother and your grandparents at any incredibly difficult time.

A private internment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Words of comfort may be sent to the family following the obituary at www.durstfuneralhome.com.
