Philip M. Carder
Philip M. Carder, of Oldtown, passed away at Western Maryland Health System on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020.
Born on July 1, 1939, he was the son of the late Noah S. and Ivy E. (Barnes) Carder. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, N. Robert Carder and John Carder; and two sisters, Helen Fourcade and Alma Pack.
Philip was a 1957 graduate of Oldtown High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army, and later, retired from the CSX Corporation.
Surviving are his sons, Philip E. Carder and wife, Sherry, Oldtown, Thomas E. Carder and wife, Christine, Punta Gorda, Fla., Patrick L. Carder and wife, Michelle, Lusby, Timothy S. Carder and wife, Abbie, Oldtown, Christina M. Carder-Mackereth, Cumberland, and Matthew A. Carder, Oldtown.
In addition Philip is survived by 14 grandchildren, Tasha Bailey and husband, Shane, Joseph Evans and fiancée, Brooke Morgan, Andrew, Rachel, Kirsten, Mitchell, Morgan, Riley, Adaline, and Averie Carder, Nelson Raines and wife, Gina, Catrina Evans, Michael and Ivy Mackereth; and one great-grandson, Sawyer Bailey.
Philip is also survived by his brothers, James H. Carder and wife, Bonnie, of Virginia, Leo F. Carder and wife, Ruth, Cumberland; his sisters, Catherine L. Dembrow, Silver Spring, Elizabeth A. Brooks, Ridgeley, W.Va., Agnes P. Webb, Oldtown, Mary R. Smith and husband, Donald, Cumberland, Patricia I. Malamis and husband, Robert, Oldtown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, from 4 to 6 p.m.
Funeral services will follow immediately at 6 p.m. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
The family thanks the staff at Western Maryland Health Systems and at Devlin Manor Nursing home for the remarkable care that he received at their facilities.

I am so sorry Tom. Unfortunately I am ill and can’t see the two of you! I didn’t know your father, but if you are even a small reflection of him, he had some good qualities! Love you both!
