Keyser, WV - Ray D. Mayhew, 70, of Fountain School Drive, Keyser, W.Va., passed away on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, at WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser.
Born on June 12, 1955, in Keyser, W.Va., he was a son of the late Ray Jospeh and Woodie Gay (Paugh) Mayhew. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Rita Bittinger; and three brothers, Roger Paugh, and Mark and Wayne Mayhew.
Mr. Mayhew began working at the age of 14, helping his Dad with the coal trucks that he operated. He graduated from Valley High School in Lonaconing, Md., in 1974. He was employed by both Pilgrim's Pride and American Woodmark in Moorefield, W.Va., and retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways. After his retirement, he continued to work with Liller Paving in the summers.
Mr. Mayhew was a member of Bonnieview Apostolic Ministries in Keyser. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and riding his motorcycle.
Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Patty Mayhew; six children, Keith Metz of Barton, Md., Shoan Gordon of Baker, W.Va., Crystal Moon of Keyser, Cody Perea of Keyser, Lindsay Perea of Paw Paw, W.Va., and Michael Gordon of Keyser; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his sister, Debbie Bolyard and her husband John of Cresaptown, Md.
Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, from 10 a.m. until noon. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the visitation at noon, with Pastor Rob Fazzalore and Pastor Daniel Garlitz officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
