Augusta, WV - AUGUSTA, W.Va. [mdash] Raymond Sylvester "Sonny" "Ray" Bennett, 80, of Augusta, died on Monday, Oct. 20, 2025, at the Somerford House Assisted Living in Hagerstown.
Ray was born on Nov. 20, 1944, in Cumberland, the son of the late Moses S. and Garnett Clopper Bennett.
Ray was a veteran in the United States Air Force, and was a former member of the Augusta United Methodist Church. He worked 17 years as a Park Ranger for Greenbrier State Park in Boonsboro, and another 12 years as an Environmental Inspector for the state of Maryland.
Surviving are three sons: Raymond S. Bennett, Jr. (Stephanie) of Williamsport, Md.; Samuel R. Bennett (Lacey) of Martinsburg, W.Va.; Harry M. Bennett of Chambersburg, Pa.; a daughter, Sylvia R. House (Darrel) of Clear Spring, Md.; two grandchildren: Waylon House and Lydia Bennett; a brother, Clifton W. Bennett of Hanover, Pa.; two sisters, Kathleen "Kitty" Van Houten & Charlotte L. Lapp (Paul) both of Cumberland.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Darrell E. Bennett and Thomas S. Bennett.
A celebration of Ray's life will be held on Nov. 6, 2025, at the Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory 2807 Northwestern Pike, Capon Bridge, W.Va., at 11 a.m.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
