Cumberland, Maryland - Raymond Joseph Garthwait, 56, of Cumberland, Md., passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Born Jan. 1, 1970, in Altoona, Pa., Raymond was the son of Bertha "Bert" (Weidlich) Garthwait and the late Raymond J. Garthwait Sr.

Ray was employed at the City of Cumberland Clean Water Filtration Plant. He attended Central Assembly of God Church. His greatest passions were hunting and fishing.

Besides his mother, Raymond is survived by his wife of 8 ½ years, Cathy Garthwait; his sons, R.J. Garthwait, and Trenton T. Garthwait and Mckenna Miller; his stepsons, Chase Hockman and Logan Hockman; his chosen daughter, Abie Duvall; his granddaughter, Kendall Garthwait; his sister, Shelly Weber; and several nieces and nephews; as well as his dog, Lily.

A celebration of life will be held at Central Assembly of God on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Assembly of God Building Fund in Ray's name.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff of UPMC and the Hospice Program, especially the family and friends who gave so much care, compassion, time and support during Ray's struggle.
