Regina Elizabeth Monahan
CUMBERLAND - Regina Elizabeth Monahan, 102, of Cumberland, formerly of Cresaptown and Wiley Ford, W.Va., passed away on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, at the Lions Center.
Born in Cumberland, on June 20, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Pearl (Phipps) and Ross E. Whitacre Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis R. Monahan, who passed away on July 4, 1981; her brothers and sisters, Ross Whitacre Jr., Evelyn Nines and husband John, Donald Whitacre and wife, Irene, Kathleen Wagoner and husband, Raymond, and Bobby Whitacre and wife, Joan.
Regina was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of Central Assembly of God Church. At the age of 65, she became an artist. Her painting won awards at the Maryland State Competitions. At the church, she was a member of the Women's Ministries, was a Sunday school teacher, and she participated in the Vacation Bible School program.
Regina is survived by her children, Jean F. Mitzel, Thomas R. Monahan, and Joan Kraus and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Marty Mitzel and wife, Porntip, Randy Mitzel and wife, June, Diana Mitzel, Karen Spencer and husband, Doug, Kristen Brooks and husband, Mike, Zachary Kraus, and Alex Kraus; great-grandchildren, Sarah Mitzel, Joshua Mitzel, J. R. Mitzel and wife, Mary, Matthew Mitzel, Randi Lea Bines and husband, Chris, Matthew Hutchinson, Kayla Valentine, Will Valentine, Kate Spencer, Rachael Spencer, Sophie Brooks, and Adam Brooks; great great-grandchildren, Lucus, Samantha, Julia, and Benji; sister-in-law, June Whitacre; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 1 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Lantz officiating.
Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.
