Mr. Richard Estill (Rick) Obituary

Short Gap, WV - Our hearts are heavy as we announce the passing of Richard "Rick" Estill, 60, who died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, at his home in Short Gap, W.Va, following a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends and surely felt their love.

Rick was a devoted and exemplary husband and Wrangler to his Squirrel, Patricia "Pattie" Estill; a loving Papa Bear to Corisa O'Dell, Rosea Lavinder, Kenneth Coan, Will Estill; and a proud and deeply cherished Grandpa to Jake, Ella and Oliver. He was a tremendous friend and coworker—and, finally, a slayer of dragons.

Known simply as "a great guy," Rick would do anything for anyone. His heart was pure gold.

Born to Robert and Kay Estill in Springfield, Ill., Rick attended Robert E. Lee High School and went on to study at Northern Virginia Community College. He was a carpenter by trade and currently worked for WODA. Rick was happiest when traveling with Pattie. Together, they shared many unforgettable adventures—whether sailing in the British Virgin Islands or driving along a quiet country road playing "cow cemetery." Above all else, Rick lived for having Pattie by his side.

Rick is survived by his siblings, Casey Jones and Cyndi McCrea.

A celebration of the man we knew and loved will be held on Saturday, April 25, at Fore Axes in Cumberland, Md., from 5 to 8 p.m. In true Rick fashion, his infamous Chocolate Espresso Martinis will be the signature drink of the evening.

In honor of Rick, take the trip. Reach out to an old friend. Drive with the top down. Smile.

He would have wanted you to.
