Cumberland, Maryland - Richard Howard Knight, 83, of Cumberland, Md., passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026. Born Aug. 1, 1942, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mable Knight.

Richard was employed with the Cumberland Times-News for 37 years, where he was known for his dedication, reliability and strong work ethic. He was widely regarded as a kind and gentle man whose quiet generosity touched many throughout his life.

Rich enjoyed keeping up with his classmates at their monthly luncheons.

Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Ann (Blocher) Knight; daughter, Crista Knight; son, Randall Knight and wife Annette Stephens; and grandson, Marshall Knight. He is also survived by his brother, Daniel Knight and wife Christy.

He was preceded in death by his sister, JoAnn (Knight) Dignan; and his brother, Frederick Knight.

Richard and Margaret were married on Sept. 7, 1968, building a life centered on family, faithfulness and mutual devotion.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
