Richard Alexander Rennie (Dick) Obituary

Richard Alexander "Dick" Rennie passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. He died after complications from a planned surgery.

Born March 12, 1939, in Lonaconing, he was the son of Alexander and Leah (Green) Rennie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn "Tootie" Rennie, and his brother, Ronald Rennie, of Midland.

Mr. Rennie was a 1957 graduate of Valley High School and resided in Fort Ashby for the last 35 years. He enjoyed many summers on the South Branch of the Potomac River and wintered in Dunedin, Fla., for numerous years.

He was a member of the Valley High School Band, where he received a musical award. Dick was also a member of the Lonaconing City Band, Frostburg Arian Band, Cumberland Municipal Band and a local traveling dance band. Dick was a member of the Army Reserves and volunteer firefighter for the Midland Fire Company. He spent his entire career at Potomac Edison where he was a lineman and later became a superintendent.

Dick hunted ring-necked pheasant, grouse and rabbit in Pennsylvania for many years. He was an avid deer and squirrel hunter. He and close friend, Gordon Green, hunted West Virginia Opening Day for 29 straight years. This year would have been no different, as he was planning to continue the longstanding tradition. He especially loved fishing, helping stock fish throughout the season. Dick spent a lot of time at his hunting camp in Barnum, W.Va., with neighbor, Paul Kiefer, and friends.

He was blessed with many wonderful years of retirement with the love of his life, Tootie, and had the most amazing neighbors, John and Linda Torbett, all the years he lived in Fort Ashby. Dick loved Myrtle Beach and took an annual trip with his wife, sister, Bonnie, and brother-in-law, Jessie, for over 25 years. He really enjoyed Bluegrass music and especially liked John Denver and Emmylou Harris.

He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Rennie Harris and husband, Jessie; three daughters, Debbie Lohr and husband, Bob, Alexia Garlitz and husband, Kevin, and Denise Morgan and husband, Phil; and "Bonus Family", Jim McGreevy and wife, Edie, Dave McGreevy, Sandy Campbell, Kathy Price and husband, Barney, Tara Garlitz and husband, Jeff, and Ann Priddle and Cory Hargett; grandchildren, Richard, Christopher and Charlie Cornelius, Briana Sisler, Stephen, Sean and Stephanie Fazenbaker, Ryan, Hannah Jenna and Adam McGreevy, Taryn Price, Rhea Tidwel, Laura Maxey, Dean and Destiney Priddle, Brook Salesky, Madison Garlitz and Michael McGreevy; along with numerous great-grandchildren.

At his request, Dick was cremated.

A celebration of life will follow at a later date when family and friends can safely gather.
