Richard E. Robinson (Matthew) Obituary

Cresaptown, MD - CRESAPTOWN [mdash] Richard E. Robinson, 91, passed away on April 11, 2026, at the Casselman Healthcare and Rehab. Born on Aug. 24, 1934, to the late Edward and Agnes (Winters) Robinson.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Shirley J. Robinson; siblings, Jacqueline Schaidt and husband, Arthur; Wanda Hawkins and husband, Dick; along with in-laws, Lee H. Chaney Sr and wife, Margaret; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary and Lee Chaney Jr, son-in-law, Richard Cassell. Richard was the last member of his immediate family.

After Richard graduated from Fort Hill High School, he enlisted in the Navy at the age of seventeen. He served on the USS Vulcan. He was very proud that he had enlisted in the Navy. He would tell you that he served, "three years, one month, and nineteen days".

After discharge, he met our mother and was married on Dec. 30, 1955. They had four children together.

Our father was very talented and could build or fix anything. One summer, he decided to build a second story to our house. Of course, it rained the week that the roof was removed. But, he built us a beautiful home and there was a lot of love and joy inside growing up.

He loved family gatherings and always told you to come back soon. He loved the family vacations in Florida and Myrtle Beach with his children and grandchildren.

Mom and dad did a lot of traveling together across the United States after he retired from the CSX Railroad. He enjoyed working at the railroad and made a lot of good friends.

Richard was a member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church where he served as a Layman, an usher, and taught Adult Sunday School classes.

Richard is survived by four children, Cynthia Cassell, Wayne Robinson, Carla (Richard) Marino, and Alan Robinson; he had nine grandchildren, Megan (Jorge), Sarah (Jordan), Ryan (Danielle), Erin, Nicholas, Heather, Christopher, Katie, and Zachary; nine great-grandchildren, Alex, Angel, Aaliyah, Kaden, Kamden, Jalen, Reagan, Nora, and Levi; and numerous nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown on Friday, April 17th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A funeral service will immediately follow with Reverend Harold McClay Jr. officiating.

Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery, 16864 National Pike, Frostburg, MD.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone that helped our father at UPMC Western Maryland. We also want to thank the staff at the Casselman Healthcare and Rehab. Our father was blessed to have been a resident at this facility. They were all angels.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cresaptown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 5206, Cresaptown, MD 21502 in Richard's name.
