Delray, West Virginia - Robert Warren "Bob" Cheves, Jr., 75, of Delray, W.Va., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, peacefully at his home.

Born Oct. 20, 1942, in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late Robert and Christine Lurig Cheves Sr. He attended college at Potomac State and West Virginia University where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Agriculture. He also took graduate courses at Maryland University, George Washington University, and The Citadel.

He was an active farmer who was passionate about education, farming, politics, youth and outdoor activities. He started his career in agriculture as division manager for the southwest area at Kerr-McGee Chemical Corporation. He then became a regional manager for Agrico Chemical Company and WVU Extension Service Agriculture agent for Hampshire County.

Bob and his wife are owners and operators of Swinging Bridge Farm, Delray. He was a substitute teacher at Capon Bridge Jr. High School, Hampshire High School, adjunct instructor at Potomac State, and served on the board of Hampshire County Fair and Hampshire County Development Authority, and on the advisory board for Hampshire County Farm Bureau, FFA and 4-H. He was a member and past president of the Rio Runtan Club, attended Delray Church of Christ, and coached baseball with Romney Little League. The Cheves have helped many young students continue their education.

Bob married Sandra Sue Parson Cheves on Dec. 18, 1965, in Springsfield, W.Va.

Surviving with his wife of 53 years are his four children, Cindy Thompson (Charlie), Winchester, Va., Bobby Cheves, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Ronnie Cheves, Delray, and Sandy Cheves, Romney, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Jared, Josh, Emma, Ronnie and River; and two special girls, Sadie and Sydney Arnette.

Family will received friends at Giffin Funeral Home and Crematory, Capon Bridge, W.Va., on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Graveside services will be held in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney, on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at 1 p.m. with Minister Eric Bridge officiating.
