Cumberland, MD - Robert "Bob" Brennan D'Atri, 86, of Cumberland, passed peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on Oct. 25, 2025, at UPMC Western Maryland after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born Nov. 26, 1938, in McKeesport, Pa., to the late Francisco "Frank" and Rita (Brennan) D'Atri. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Patrick D'Atri; a sister, Amelia Davis; a brother, John D'Atri; and many other beloved members of his extended family.
Bob attended Fort Hill High School and remained a die-hard football fan for the rest of his life. Following school, he worked deliveries for Goldsmit-Black and then at the Kelly Springfield Tire Co. assembling truck tires. In 1970, he and his wife Rosemary founded D'Atri Subs on Columbia Street, and the steak sub was born. He opened D'Atri Restaurant and D'Atri Bakery in LaVale during 1976. In 1998, he opened Fratelli Market and Deli, which later became Fratelli Restaurant. In 2000, he began Restaurant City Warehouse, restaurant equipment sales. Then, in 2009, he opened Patrick's Pub, in memory of his son, and continued to work in the kitchen into his 80's. His hard work and dedication was the foundation of these successful business.
Bob's life was work, but he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his friend and mother of his children, Rosemary D'Atri; children, Brent D'Atri and wife Susan, Suzette D'Atri, Deanna "Dee" D'Atri, Antoinette "Toni" Love and husband Scott, and Sean D'Atri and wife Breann; daughter-in-law, Kelly D'Atri; former son-in-law, Lawrence Cosner; beloved companion of many years, Bonnie Broadwater; his grandson who was a son to him, Seth D'Atri and his girlfriend Hope Beckward; grandchildren, Devon D'Atri, Justin D'Atri, Ashleigh Love, Lauren Spangler, Lindsay Burns, Cory Cosner, Courtney Love, Kelsey Metz, Jade D'Atri, Garrett D'Atri, Austin Bohn, Addison Moses, Carmen Staley, Brenna Taylor, Wyatt Love, Isiah Bohn, Max D'Atri and Luca D'Atri; 23 great-grandchildren and counting; his siblings, Mary Frances Puhalla, Camila "Sue" Welch, Rita "Nic" Cross (Butch) and Michael D'Atri (Suzanne); and his very large extended family including many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025, from noon to 3 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland. A memorial service will immediately follow, beginning at 3 p.m., with Pastor Bruce McBride officiating.
