Roberta Louise White (Bobbie) Obituary
Frostburg, MD - Roberta Louise White, beloved wife of Edward (Ned) White, died Monday, May 25, 2026, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Known to her friends and family as Bobbie, she was born in Pittsburgh on Nov. 3, 1949, the daughter of Louis Perry Jr. and EllaMae Geiger Perry. She grew up in Murrysville, Pa., attended Franklin Regional High School, and subsequently attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she obtained bachelor's degree in mathematics, with the goal of becoming teacher. She then went to graduate school at The Pennsylvania University, where she earned a master's degree in mathematics.
While at Penn State, she met her future husband, another math graduate student. They were married on June 8, 1974. After graduation from Penn State in 1983, Bobbie secured a teaching position in the Mathematics Department at Frostburg State College. Except for one year's return to Penn State, she taught at FSC until 1979. She then taught at Allegany Community College, Potomac State College and returned to Frostburg State University to teach for two years in 2004.
Bobbie was a member of church choirs at the Presbyterian churches in Frostburg and Lonaconing, and directed the choir in Lonaconing for several years. She also participated in the September Singers choral group for a number of seasons. She loved to grow plants and maintained a beautiful bed of spring flowers, as well as a bountiful vegetable garden. Other hobbies included bicycling, genealogy research, decorating for Christmas and solving math, word and jigsaw puzzles.
She and Ned traveled extensively in the United States, visiting all 50 states, and concentrating on national parks, state capitals and historic presidential sites. There were also special trips to Luxembourg, Australia and New Zealand. Bobbie and Ned celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a rededication ceremony in 2024. On each prior anniversary (save one), Bobbie would surprise Ned somewhere, sometime, by appearing in her wedding dress. Memorable venues were Western Maryland Station, in the church choir in Lonaconing, and at Frostburg State where Ned was giving a talk.
She is survived by her husband; brothers, Ronald Perry (Sandy) of Murrysville, Pa., and William (Diane) of Duncansville, Pa.; sister-in-law, Susan Collazo (Louis); nieces and nephews, Bridget Perry, Michael Perry, Jon Perry, Stephanie Spencer and Jonathan Collazo; and seven grand-nieces and -nephews. Also surviving are special friends, John Jones, David and Elaine Jones, and their family.
Family and friends will be received at Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, MD, on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with Pastor Tom Morgan officiating.
