Roger Allen Hutchins Sr. Obituary
Pasco, WA - PASCO, Wash. [mdash] Roger Allen Hutchins, 82, passed away on May 26, 2025 at his home in Pasco, Wash. after a month's long battle with spindle cell melanoma.
Mr. Hutchins was a 1961 graduate of Beall High School, Frostburg, Md. and, after serving four years in the US Air Force, attended the University of Maryland where he received a B.S. degree in Electronic Engineering.
Roger was an adventurous world traveler, having traveled to Greenland, Labrador, New Zealand and American Samoa for work and to numerous European countries on personal travel. As an employee of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, he traveled to Antarctica multiple times to conduct scientific experiments for the National Science Foundation.
He was a quiet, humble man, with a sly sense of humor. In fact, you wouldn't know he was joking until you saw his crinkle smile hiding behind his signature mustache. He was also known to steal one of your donuts or give you bunny ears in pictures. He was a family man with two wonderful children, Kimberly and Roger II, and the love of his life, his wife, Christine. Christine and Roger were together for over 40 years before his passing.
He was an avid gardener and loved to explore the stars. He even built his own telescope for his nighttime star gazing adventures with his wife Christine while living in Arizona. Because he was an engineer, he loved technology and, from his youth, was an avid ham radio operator. Everywhere he lived he built a large complicated set of wires which became the antenna for his ham radio.
Roger was loved by all. His memory lives on through his wife, Christine; daughter and son-in-law Kimberly and Tim, son Roger II; his sister, Cynthia (Cindy) Hutchins; sister-in-law, Sandy Broadwater Chase; two beloved dogs Cinnamon and Ginger and countless friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Lois Hanson Hutchins; his brother, Max Hutchins; and his aunt Connie Sue Burke.
Funeral services and burial took place on June 5, 2025 at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, Medical Lake, Wash. 99022.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Three Rivers Guild, Seattle Children's Hospital: 3 Rivers Guild, C/O Lynne Pagel, 5004 W. Yellowstone Ave., Kennewick, Wash. 99336.
