Ronald W. "Ron" Krug, of McHenry, age 66, passed away on March 11, 2024, at Garrett Regional Medical Center in Oakland, after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his family and friends. After many years of battling the cancer and all its resulting complications, he decided to enter hospice care on Feb. 22, 2024, so that he could leave this world peacefully.

Ron Krug was born on Jan. 20, 1958, in Floral Park Queens, N.Y., to Vincent Krug and Carole (Breinlinger) Krug.

He graduated from Miller Place High School in Miller Place, N.Y., and received his B.S. in Management from the State University of New York at Old Westbury. He earned his M.B.A from the University at Albany, SUNY, and his M.S. in Accounting at Binghamton University. He was a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland.

He spent most of his career teaching at the college-level and was an assistant professor at SUNY Oneonta for 15 years. When he moved to Cumberland to be with his wife in 1998, he began teaching at University of Pittsburgh, Johnstown, Pa. In 2006, he joined Allegany College of Maryland where he was an associate professor and co-chair of the Division of Business and Economics. He received the League Excellence Award at the College's Innovations Conference and was selected for this award by a committee of his peers.

Early in his career, Ron worked as a Department Manager for Macy's in New York. He proudly marched in the Macy's Day parade and his role with his colleagues was to help support Tom Turkey's very large wing. Their part was expertly executed as the turkey floated down the parade route.

He was predeceased by his father, Vincent Krug; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ida and Stanley Grecki; and his brother-in-law, Henry Bruce Grecki.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cherie (Grecki) Krug; his mother, Carole Tate and her companion, Toby Pugh; his brother, Donald Krug; his sister, Dana Krug; his sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, Bernadette Grecki and Stanley Kaplan; stepmother, Monique Caron-Krug; a stepsister, Tracy Chartier; Mark Cerrato, brother-in-law and Henry's partner; and compassionate caregiver, Megan Fazenbaker.

Ron loved nature and he and Cherie visited 18 National Parks. Ron also had a keen sense of curiosity and a was a life-long learner. He was very interested in history, and after his move to Maryland, developed a strong interest in the history of the Civil War, did a lot of reading on the subject, and he and Cherie visited many battlefields in the area.

Ron loved sports especially his NY Giants and Yankees, the outdoors, hiking, Martha's Vineyard, and Deep Creek Lake, but, most of all, his wife of 38 years, Cherie Krug, his "Lovely Duck." They were married on Aug. 17, 1985, and remained true partners in life.

A memorial service and a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 11 a.m., at Saint Matthews Episcopal Church, 126 East Liberty Street, Oakland, with the Dr. Reverend Chip Lee officiating.
