Rosalie Sue Thomas Obituary

LaVale, MD - Rosalie Sue (Femi) Thomas, 86, of LaVale, Md., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on May 31, 1939, in Cumberland, Md., to Ted and Elsie Femi, she is survived by her significant other, Harry Hobell; six children, Micky Thomas and wife Cindy, Felicia Martin and husband David, Philip Thomas and wife Terri, Tony Thomas and wife Cynthia, Todd Thomas and wife Laurie, and Jason Thomas and partner Makayla Vasquez. She is also survived by her brother, Ted; and brother Brian and his wife Kim.

Rosie was known as Grammy to her grandchildren Erin, Rebecca, Emma, Maria, Bryana, Derek, Gus, Luci, McKinley, Caroline, Luna, Teddy, Oaklynn; and great-grandchildren Brody, Braven, Finn, Roslyn, Ella, Clara, Jane, Alice, Anneliese, Luke, Sarah, Cole, Baelee, Christian and Marisa. In addition, Rosie was loved by several extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lowell Thomas; her parents, Ted and Elsie Femi; and grandchild, Derek Thomas.

Rosie was a dedicated wife and mother who had several careers. She was a professional singer, cosmetologist, stay-at-home mother and insurance claims assistant. She volunteered her time at St. Ambrose Catholic Church as a teacher, with Bishop Walsh High School as coach of the drill team, and was a member of the LaVale Lions and the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. During summers, Rosie and Lowell would sponsor inner-city children for a few weeks. Rosie loved to take cruises, sing, dance, knit, shop for her kids and grandkids and cook food, especially her famous meatballs. She and Lowell had an annual open house on Christmas Eve that most of the town came to over the course of a few hours. She adored the time she could spend with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and would travel to see them as often as she could.

Special thanks is given to Hum and Reba Niland for their tireless assistance given in aid of Rosie's health management. Thanks also to Harry's daughters Krista, Judith and Linda for their care of and concern for Rosie.
