SHALIMAR, Fla. - Ruth Marie Lewis, 92, of Shalimar, and formerly of Hagerstown, passed away during the early morning of Saturday, June 13, 2020. She made it clear that she was ready to move on, and in her usual fashion, she got her way.

Born on Wednesday, June 29, 1927, in Vandergrift, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Arnold M. Rinehart and Bessie Frances (Dauthitt) Rinehart. She was also the tough, and protected, little sister of five big brothers.

She attended Fort Hill High School, in Cumberland, and Hagerstown Junior College. Ruth was employed with the State of Maryland's Office of the Comptroller, retiring in 1985 as manager. She was a charter member of the Beaver Creek Lions Club and a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, were she served on the Quilting Committee, Friends and Caring Committee and as a money counter. Even when residing in Washington and Florida, she continued service to her communities and, yes, made beautiful quilts. Ruth loved her family and her friends, gardening, painting, quilting and clothes.

She is survived by four sons, Keith and his wife, Lori, Jeff and his wife, Julie, Mark and his wife, Val, and Michael; as well as, Janet and Barb, two very special women that are her daughters; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandbaby.

Ruth is loved by many and she is sorely missed.

Ruth is preceded in death by her son, Dean; many other precious family members and friends; and by her husband, the love of her life, John Gordon Lewis. There is no doubt that they are together, dressed "to the nines" and giving Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers some serious competition.

A small graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown.

A gathering of celebration and remembrance will be held at a later date, when the world gets a little less, well, infectious.
