Samuel E. Horst Jr., 84, of Hagerstown, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016, at his home.
Born June 21, 1932, in Maugansville, he was the son of the late Fannie S. (Shank) and Samuel E. Horst Sr.
Samuel retired from Cavetown Planing Mill as a cabinet maker after 35 years of service.
He attended Bethel Assembly of God. He was a volunteer at the Mount Hope Prison Ministry and a member of the Full Gospel Business Mens Fellowship International.
Samuel is survived by his wife, Arlene Horst; one daughter, Diane C. Horst Michael and husband, Rick, of Hagerstown; one son, Dennis Alan Horst and wife Michelle, of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Alice Harbaugh and Ida Zimmerman; one brother, Jacob Horst; three brothers-in-law, Granville Nelson, Timothy Nelson, and Gerald Nelson; seven grandchildren, Jami, Craig, Sarah, Hannah, Nathan, Sharayah, and Arielle; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Lehman; one brother, Abram Horst; two sisters-in-law, Eva Boward and Shirley Baughman; and two brothers-in-law, Delbert Nelson and Ernest Nelson.
Services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at New Life Christian Ministries, 12031 Hopewell Road, Hagerstown. Pastor Ken R. Harris will officiate.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 1, 2016, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown and one hour prior at the church on Saturday, July 2, 2016.
