Cumberland, MD - CUMBERLAND [mdash] Sara Kay (Abe) Paxton, 77, of Cumberland, died July 13, 2026, at UPMC-Western Maryland.

Born July 6, 1949, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late James and Vertus (Santmyire) Abe.

She was also preceded in death by her precious son, JR; and son-in-law, Matt Moore. Sara was the last surviving member of her family, having been preceded in death by her four sisters and four brothers.

Sara graduated from Oldtown High School.

She had been employed at area sewing factories, and had also worked in the cafeteria at Washington Middle School, but she was a housewife and stay-at-home Mom the majority of her life. She loved to sew and bake, and loved taking care of her family.

Sara had previously attended Bethany House of the Lord. Her husband, Alan, belonged to the Western Maryland Street Rod Club and the Cumberland Outdoor Club, and she enjoyed attending events with him.

Survivors include her husband of almost 54 years, Alan D. Paxton; daughters, Heather Lockhart and Jennifer Moore; grandchildren, Caitlyn Paxton, Trevor Moore, Brycen Moore, and Emma Moore; her precious great granddaughter, Amarra Grace; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Wednesday, July 22, from noon until 1 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., with Pastor Michael Mudge, officiating.

Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
