FROSTBURG [mdash] Sarah "Sally" Kirkwood, 88, of New Georges Creek Road, Frostburg, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 3, 1936, in Barton, she was the daughter of the late William H. Hyde and Daisy (Cunningham) Hyde.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Clara Ann Rhodes and William "Bill" Hyde. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Sally was a 1954 graduate of Valley High School and worked as an administrative assistant.

She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she sang joyfully in the choir for many years.

In her spare time, she worked on crossword puzzles and read many books. She also enjoyed long Sunday drives, traveling with her loving husband to Hawaii and Washington state, and going on bus trips with friends. Most of all her life centered around her family; she was happiest hosting family gatherings in her home.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert "Ted" Edward Kirkwood; three sons, Robert Gregory Kirkwood and wife, Milissa, of Middletown; Bruce Alan Kirkwood and wife, Linda, of Frostburg; and Steven Scott Kirkwood and wife, Bobbie, of Frostburg; six grandchildren, Lauren Munson and husband, Nick; Jake Kirkwood and wife, Cece; Gage Kirkwood; Kendall Kirkwood; Cady Kirkwood Rankin and husband, Chuck; and Tyler Kirkwood.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating. Interment will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
