Timothy Charles Mitter (Tim) Obituary

Potomac, Maryland - "You are the creator of your own reality. Make it a masterpiece." —Unknown

Timothy Charles Mitter, 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Potomac, Md., on March 13, 2026, after a decade-long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He is survived by his wife, Carol.

Tim's early scholastic and career endeavors were as diverse as the man himself. A talented trumpet player, he played his way through school as a professional musician and was selected for the McKaig Scholarship in pursuit of his Master of Public Administration. After serving as a law clerk with the 4th Judicial Circuit Court of Allegany County, Maryland, Tim became the (then) youngest-elected city commissioner for a Maryland state municipality.

Next, after overseeing all development, disbursement, financing and general contractor activities as the CEO for a large multifamily property management organization, Tim's progressive 30-plus-year career spanned myriad public, non-profit and private industry sectors where he became an innovative leader and industry expert in structured project finance for affordable multifamily housing developments in the primary and secondary tax-exempt securities markets.

Tim created lifelong professional and personal friendships given his amiable nature, astute intellect, irrefutable integrity and rare gift for storytelling that made others laugh out loud. After the sudden, tragic death of his dad in 1981, Tim took the reins and vowed to protect his mother's future, devoting his time, energy and effort to ensure her good health, wealth and safety until her passing in 2017.

A consummate musician, Tim became a one-man band over the years, mastering the piano, flute and guitar, while also enjoying travel, tennis, photography, pool, boating, gardening (oh...those tomatoes!) and his dogs — the Mitter boys, Buddy, Sky, Gabriel, Luke, Rudy and Bodhi.

Cremation has taken place, and a private, celebratory service will follow at a later date. In the interim, contributions in Tim's memory may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association: https://lbda.org/donate.
