Rev William George Boyer Jr Obituary

Cumberland, MD - CUMBERLAND [mdash] In Loving Memory of Rev. William George Boyer Jr., November 24, 1932 to August 14, 2025.

William George Boyer Jr. (Bill), 92 years old, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

Born in Utica, New York in 1932 and raised in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Bill lived a life anchored in unwavering faith in Jesus, a faith that shaped every word he spoke and every life he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William George Sr. and Myrtle Boyer; and his sisters, Dorothy Schaefer and Mary Ellen Heim. He is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Jane Boyer, and their four children, Elaine Nelson (husband, Benny), Michelle Ianni (husband, Guglielmo), Crystal Polston (husband, Craig), and Bill Boyer (wife, Amy). He was a proud and loving grandfather to seven grandchildren and one great grandchild: Aaron Nelson, Gabriela Ianni, Lauren Polston, Joshua Polston, Will Boyer, Miley Boyer, Carson Boyer and Rosaiah Davis.

Bill was a graduate of Bob Jones University and Southwestern Seminary, and devoted 42 years of his life to pastoral ministry. For almost 22 of those years, he faithfully shepherded Welsh Memorial Baptist Church in Frostburg, preaching the gospel with conviction and compassion. His ministry was marked by humility, wisdom, and a deep love for the Word of God. His greatest joy was sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and seeing others come to a saving knowledge of Him as their Lord and Savior.

To know Bill was to be welcomed. He never knew a stranger. His heart was open, his smile sincere, and his words always seasoned with grace. Whether in the pulpit, at the bedside, or across the dinner table, he reflected the love of Christ in every interaction. His life was guided by his strong belief that "in everything, we must be redemptive".

A celebration of his life and legacy will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Cumberland, on Saturday, August 23, 2025,at 12 p.m. A viewing will be held at 11 a.m., prior to the service. Family, friends, and all who were blessed by his ministry are invited to gather in remembrance and thanksgiving for his life. The service will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person.

Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Though he has departed this earthly life, his testimony lives on in the faith he proclaimed, the family he cherished, and the countless lives he led to Jesus. In John 3:16, God's Word says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life". Bill dedicated his life to spreading the message of God's love, always asking others, "Do you know Jesus?". If Bill were here today, his challenge to each of us would be "keep on keeping on".

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Gideons International, an organization dear to Bill's heart. Donations can be made online at www.gideons.org.
